Computer keeps freezing?
GregDABEARS Asked: Computer keeps freezing?
I have a 3 year old computer that is freezing a lot. I have Norton 360 on this computer and I run the full scan on it all the time so it doesnt have a virus. Everytime I watch a video or play a game on this computer it freezes up and stay like that for atleast 3mins. and one time I had to shut it down by the power plug because it froze up and never came undone.
(I have done the Disk Defrag and Disk clean up to see if that would help and it does help a little bit but only for about a day then it goes back to how it was.)
What can I do to stop this?
And its not the internet connection because I have a laptop and it doesnt freeze up or do anything that this does.
I would also like to fix this computer before I buy a new one. Ive bought about 5 different computers and ive took all of them back because Windows 7 is just terrible and for $250 the PCs are slow.
I also dont like Mac. Just sayin
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Try reformatting your computer with a Windows XP CD and backing up all of your files to an external harddrive. Start fresh and get better anti-virus like AVG.
i think u need to format ur computer.and reinstall the window.because it may be deleting some file due to improper shut down………..
if ur problem is reaming then its means u have some hardware problem…
also clean around ur pc fans……
best of luck

If your computer hangs up while processing video tasks, like as you said, playing videos and games, there could be a problem with your -graphics card-. This is the component in your computer that handles the graphics.
Before buying a PC, make sure to check its specifications. Those are the numbers that they display with the item, like 2.5 Ghz processor or 2 Gb RAM. The higher the better. For a graphics card, the quality is measured by its memory, and most home computers have 256-512 Mb of graphics memory. That is a sufficient amount to process medium video tasks.
So the first thing you have to do is to ask the distributor of the -specifications-, or specs, of your computer. Who knows, your computer actually doesn't have a graphics card.
Finally, anti-virus programs are not 100% reliable when they are scanning your computer for viruses.
As soon as I read Norton I didn't have to read anymore. Get rid of Norton. Get a good uninstaller that also looks up for left behind files and registry entries because NORTON IS THE WORST ANTIVIRUS TO HAVE. All it does is hog unnecessary amounts of memory and resources.
For a $250 dollar any computer. You can't really expect much in terms of performance. You should add registry cleaning as part of your computer maintenance. I would suggest re-install the operating system. After three years it's about time for it and the performance of it. Would be like the day you first turned it on. Since your major problems seem video related. Check to see if the video card isn't overheating. If the temperatures on the video card are normal. You could consider that your video card just can't handle the video rendering and consider upgrading the video card.
